03/02/08 Delavan Lake afternoon partly cloudy, foggy later 48 degrees, coolong back down to 28 degrees. Ice 14-18". With the warm temps today, we ended up with a good amount of water on top of the ice. In result we had the "toilet bowl effect" today ending up with many nice gills and crappies. What I mean by the "toilet bowl effect", is with all of the water running into the holes, it reminds me of a toilet flushing. Many of the bigger gills we caught were sitting right under those holes. Lots of warm water rolling under the ice. We had three flags, one had a heavy fish on, but managed to get wound up in weeds snapping my Pline flourocarbon leader with ease. No other gamefish were caught, but we ended up with many nice fillets going home with my clients. The best presentation were dark colored jigs with spikes during the daylight hours, switching over to glow colors after dark for crappies.
