01/31/07 Geneva Lake, clear 5 degrees. Winds north/northwest 10-20 mph. Quite cold! Ice 4-5 inches. Barometric Pressure 30.13S. Fished in the early A.M. Caught a mess of perch in the 7-9" range. Saw many large perch on the camera, but not interested in the offering. I downsized quite a bit which scored me some keepers. I managed to hook a Northern but ended up donating a lure to a resident of the lake.
Delavan Lake, snowing 10 degrees. Winds west/southwest 10-15 mph. Ice 7". Barometric Pressure 29.31F. Fished P.M. Fished strictly walleyes. Marked around six fish in six different areas. Again I downsized, hooked a fish jigging but lost it half way up. No flags. Some days just marking fish is just as good as catching fish. You know your close, your in the right area, but just can't get the fish to commit. By the time I left tonight the wind chill had to be 10-15 below zero with the windchill. Now that is ice fishing!

Fall Walleyes
01/30/07 Delavan lake, clear and a cold 9 degrees. Winds northwest 5-10 mph. Barometric pressure 30.13R, the spiking pressure really has affected the bite. Ice 7 1/2". Had a slow morning with two flags, run and drops. Caught a handful of small gills. Went back out in the afternoon, caught around 30 crappies ranging 4-8", and 30 or 40 gills in the 6-8" range. All caught on jigs/plastic combos. Had around 5 flags, caught one 31" Northern the rest run and drops. Waited it out until 8:00 p.m. to see if I could score any walleyes, with no luck.

01/29/07 Delavan Lake, light snow 25 degrees. Winds calm. Barometric pressure 29.83L. Ice 7". Caught around 20 nice gills in the 7-8" range and around 25 crappies ranging between 3-14". All caught in 3-5 feet of water using ice jigs and plastic, crappies were all caught leading to sunset and after dark. Suprisingly enough, no need for live bait today. I had 3 runs on the arctic warriors (tip downs) and finally caught a nice 30" Northern pike. Caught using small bluegills on the tip-ups. I caught the pike one hour after dark. Good Luck all!

01/27/07 Delavan Lake, light snow 20 degrees. West/northwest winds 5 mph. Barometric pressure 29.77R. Ice thickness 7". Took my son fishing for a little while this afternoon. We caught around 12 nice bluegills and a few crappies in the 8" range along with many others. We also had one flag around dark. Many, many people were out today fishing boards, but we only saw one fish caught. Very slow. We fished mainly 3-5 feet of water. The gills and crappies were caught on glow teardrops with spikes.

01/26/07 Lake Comus, sunny 35 degrees. Winds west/southwest 10-15 mph. Barometeric pressure 29.51L. Ice thickness 6". Spent some time with my son today. We fished our local "urban" lake for awhile. We set tip ups for bass and pike. We had three flags, but no fish. Just a short little trip in between our errand running.

01/24/07 Delavan Lake, overcast/light snow 25 degrees. Winds light and variable. Barometric pressure 30.09R. Ice thickness 5 inches. Fished shallow flats for walleyes anywhere from 3 to 10 feet of water, no flags to speak of. I tried jigging and moving marking a few fish but no takers. Always remember, persistence pays off----eventually. Try again tomorrow.

01/23/06 Delavan Lake, partly cloudy 29 degrees. Winds north/northwest 5-10mph. Ice thickness 4-5". Caught a few bluegills, all pretty small in 5-7" range using spikes in 3-8 feet of water. I tried to find the healthiest weeds possible which is getting to be very difficult with the snow cover and lack of sunlight. I set tip-ups in 3 to 10 feet of water and managed to catch two Northern Pike one 24" and 28". One using a 6" sucker and a large fathead on the other. I saw many flags between a dozen fishermen or so. It seemed the fish would run out 10-20 feet of line and drop the bait. Even though we are experiencing our first true solid ice, the fish are starting to follow mid to late ice patterns. Good Luck All

First Big Day On The Ice
01/22/07 Delavan Lake, sunny giving away to clouds 28 degrees. Winds west/southwest 5-15 mph. Ice thickness 5-6 inches. Caught a nice mess of bluegill in 3-5 feet of water. Set tip-ups in 3-6 feet of water. Had five flags but no fish hooked. I used a combination of fatheads and suckers on the rigs. All in all the consensus between fishermen today was slow action.
